Note, there is no client application (known as the legacy c# client) for vSphere 6.5 or 6.7. Instead, the web client is used. There are a few different web based clients available in vSphere 6.5 and 6.7. These are:
It was a question.... so if i cannot use the client how do I manage the VMs now.. NOT THE WEB INTERFACE!!! i hate the web interface..most of the time it does not work, for example exporting VMS , downloads fail to export, uploading files to datastores fail at times.. I did not have this problem with the client. I am half tempted to just go back to 6.0 so i can have my client back.
Vsphere Client 6.5 Download
The feature freeze for the old Windows C# vSphere Client war in 5.5. The introduction of the HostClient starts as a Fling (you should check if there is a newer version).Later VMware ships the Hostclient together with ESXi as a replacement of the old vSphere Client. The vCenter comes with a flashed Based WebClient which later was replaced with a HTML5 which than was renamed to vSphere Client.
I originally got this G5 server with 6.0,. then after many hours of attempts i was able to upgrade to 6.5.0 from a depot file using exscli command , the client was still working on 6.5, I think my mistake was jumping from 6.5.0 directly to 6.5.0u2 as the windows client was still working on 6.5 and you say it still works on 6.5.0U1 , I should have not jumped to U2. Currently have a windows 10 pro and a 2016 server running on 6.5.0U2 , Yes i wish i had $500 to spend. I dont.. I wish i had better servers, I dont. This is what I have for my personal lab, to learn on I was lucky to get a G5 and a MD1000 with a perc6e card and cables donated to me so I am grateful for that.
So it sounds like i need roll back or re-install to go back to 6.5.0 and update 1 if i want to be using the windows client. I got 10 and 2016 on 6.5u2 so I am going to say i can probably get them running on 6.5u1
In this post, I am not going to discuss about any technical stuffs or troubleshooting. This Post is purely to easy of vSphere Admins who want to download the VMware vSphere Client. I have athered the Download link of all versions of vSphere Client starting from vSphere Client v4.1 Update 1 to the latest release vSphere Client 6.0 Update 3. Just click on the vSphere Client Image in the below table to directly download the respective vSphere Client version.

In vSphere 6.5, VMware also introduced an HTML5-based web client (now known simply as the vSphere Client) that can be accessed by browsing to -or-IP-Address-of-vCenter/ui. Initially, this client was a work in progress and lacked many features found in the vSphere Web Client. However, since vSphere 6.7 Update 1 it has been feature complete and is now the recommended client for managing your vSphere infrastructure.
The vCenter Server Appliance Management Interface (VAMI) has been around since vSphere 6.0 and is a web-based client for managing vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) configuration. The VAMI allows you to perform tasks such as changing the VCSA host name, configuring network settings, NTP configuration, applying patches and updates, and scheduling VCSA backups.
In vSphere 6.0 Update 1, VMware introduced the Platform Services Controller (PSC) Management UI. This is an HTML5-based web client for managing all PSC related tasks, such as configuring identity providers and managing security certificates. Following the release of vSphere 7, the PSC Management UI is no longer available. All PSC related management tasks can now be performed directly from the vSphere Client.
It looks like the announcement for general availability for vSphere 6.5 was published a bit earlier than expected. However, it is true that vSphere 6.5 has GA'ed and you can now download it! Below is a nice aggregated list of all the relevant release notes, documentation and download links related to the GA of vSphere 6.5.
If you want to try the H5 Client w/vSphere 6.0, have a look at the Fling -html5-web-client. In vSphere 6.5, the H5 Client is bundle w/the VCSA 6.5 and its tied to the VC, there's no pointing as it just works OOTB.
How do we update the H5 client with the latest Fling? SSHing to the vCSA and doing ./installer-2.14.0.bsx seems like it might not be the best idea, especially since I don't see the vsphere-h5-client-2.13.0-4616630.noarch rpm.
Apache server details, including the version, might appear on vCenter Server urls, such as https:// :9443/vsphere-client/inventory-viewer/locales/help . The Apache server details might be visible for all the context present in the product.
Workaround: You can use the vSphere Client as an alternative for file upload and download on vCenter Server systems. For the vSphere Web Client, the ESXi Embedded Host Client, and for the backup of virtual machines issues, you must rename datastores containing non-alphanumeric characters.
The NFS 4.1 client loses synchronization with the NFS server when attempting to create new sessions This problem occurs after a period of interrupted connectivity with the NFS server or when NFS IOs do not get response. When this issue occurs, the vmwarning.log file contains a throttled series of warning messages similar to the following: NFS41 CREATE_SESSION request failed with NFS4ERR_SEQ_MISORDERED
Unmount the affected NFS 4.1 datastores. If no files are open when you unmount, this operation succeeds and the NFS 4.1 client module cleans up its internal state. You can then remount the datastores that were unmounted and resume normal operation.
An NFS 4.1 datastore exported from a VNX server might become inaccessible When the VNX 4.1 server disconnects from the ESXi host, the NSF 4.1 datastore might become inaccessible. This issue occurs if the VNX server unexpectedly changes its major number. However, the NFS 4.1 client does not expect the server major number to change after establishing connectivity with the server.
Downloaded vSphere system logs are invalid This issue might occur if the client session expires while the downloading of system logs is still in progress. The resulting downloaded log bundle becomes invalid. You might observe an error message similar to the following in the vsphere_client_virgo.log file located in /var/log/vmware/vsphere-client/logs/vsphere_client_virgo.log:
com.vmware.vsphere.client.logbundle.DownloadLogController Error downloading logs. org.apache.catalina.connector.ClientAbortException: java.net.SocketException: Broken pipe (Write failed) at org.apache.catalina.connector.OutputBuffer.realWriteBytes(OutputBuffer.java:407)
In the vSphere Client or vSphere Web Client, live refresh of Recent Tasks and object status stops working after the client machine's IP address changes In the vSphere Client or vSphere Web Client, after performing an action on an object, the action does not appear in Recent Tasks. The inventory trees, lists, and object details also do not reflect the new state.
In Windows Internet Explorer 11 or later, the Use Windows Session Authentication checkbox is inactive on vSphere Web Client login page The Use Windows Session Authentication checkbox is inactive on the vSphere Web Client login page in Windows Internet Explorer 11 or later browsers. You are also prompted to download and install the VMware Enhanced Authentication Plug-in.
Before you go and head to this page, let's talk a little bit for which usage one would still need an old version of vSphere client. When working with many VMware customers, you need many versions of vSphere Client for Windows installed on your system (or in a VMw with VMware Workstation or Player). Would not be a good idea to have a single VMware vSphere Client Download Page from where you could easily download the ones you need?
So far, with each release of VMware vSphere, there has been not only a download of the particular version of vSphere, where within the version bundle you have the vSphere client embedded on the vCenter Server ISO, or Some vSphere version does however provide a link directly to the client download while you are at MyVMware.com.
To have all the list of all clients, follow the link below. You can find also vSphere 5.1 and 5.0. That's all. vSphere 4.0 isn't available for download, and I think that nobody runs 4.x environments any longer.
This is an interesting question. With each new version of vSphere, there is a new version of the virtual hardware, and the possibility of management. For example, you cannot manage, modify or create VMs with Virtual hardware 13 (vSphere 6.5) with vSphere Client 6.0 or you cannot manage virtual hardware 10 (vSphere 5.5) with vSphere client 5.1.
You might experience an error saying that you cannot use the vSphere client to edit the settings of virtual machines version X.X. In this case, you need the propper version of the client or go and use Web client.
VMware continues to improve the vSphere Web client. Recently there was a big problem due to a dependency of Adobe Flash player. What happens is that the Flash player update which triggered within many infrastructures has completely crippled the access to a vCenter server by continuously crashing. Whether you reload the page, it crashed again. Sure, you still had the HTML 5 based client, but this isn't 100% complete just yet. 2ff7e9595c
